No News Is Good News

We’re aware we’ve been relatively quiet recently but we can assure you we’re still working to deliver our Cumbernauld Community and Heritage Hub project and are firmly committed to the restoration of the former Cumbernauld Primary School building.

Over the last six months or so we’ve strengthened our committee, bringing in some new members with the drive and experience to help push us in the right direction. We’ve also been out on the road visiting similar community projects throughout the central belt, including Linlithgow Burgh Halls and Castlemilk Stables, gaining useful ideas and building a network of contacts. We’ve been engaging with the local community, holding another public consultation event, and building new relationships with a possible view to a partnership approach. We’ve also spoken with likely funders (namely the Heritage Lottery Fund) and we hope to submit an application to them in the not-too-distant future.

We are also keenly aware that with our group continuing to bear the name “Cumbernauld House Trust” some people could mistakenly believe we are still working on bringing Cumbernauld House under community ownership. As the property is now privately owned, and with a number of residential units now occupied, we will be changing our name to better idenitify with our charitable objects and our ongoing projects, and we hope to finalise this process in December.

In the meantime, we’d be delighted if you’d help us fundraise. The “Shop for us” link on the right-hand side will take you to ‘Give As You Live’ which, for everyone who registers, will return commission to us on purchases from a wide number of websites, from groceries to holidays, and it doesn’t cost you a penny more. Alternatively, you can donate just £3 to us from your mobile by texting “Cumbernauld” to 70004. Your donation would be set up on a recurring, monthly basis but this can be cancelled or skipped at any time by following the instructions included in your donation text.

We also meet on the first Monday of every month in Cumbernauld Theatre at 7pm and all of our meetings are open to the public to attend. Please come along and help us to deliver an exciting and ambitious, yet acheivable, project for our town.
